How Google Algorithm Works

The Google algorithm is the engine behind every search result you see. When I explain SEO to new clients in Nepal, I describe the algorithm as a set of hundreds of signals and calculations that Google uses to decide which pages deserve to rank for a given query — and in what order. No one outside Google knows the exact formula, and it changes thousands of times per year.

Why Google Algorithm Matters for SEO

The algorithm evaluates signals including relevance (does this page match what the user searched for?), authority (do other trusted sites link to this page?), quality (is this content genuinely helpful?), and experience (does the page load fast and work well on mobile?). If you’re unsure how Google Algorithm is impacting your site, working with an experienced SEO consultant can help you identify the problem and fix it efficiently.

Common Google Algorithm Mistakes

Understanding the Google algorithm — even at a high level — is the foundation of all SEO work. Every technique I apply, from keyword research to link building to technical audits, is ultimately designed to satisfy the signals the algorithm rewards. The algorithm is also constantly evolving, which is why staying current with Google updates is part of my professional practice.

Do’s and Don’ts: Google Algorithm

✅ Do This ❌ Don’t Do This
✅ Build clear site architecture that lets users and bots navigate within 3 clicks of the homepage ❌ Overload navigation with too many links — it dilutes PageRank and confuses crawlers
✅ Focus on topical authority — cover a subject comprehensively before targeting new topics ❌ Chase every new keyword trend without a coherent content strategy first
✅ Align every page to one primary search intent: informational, commercial, navigational, or transactional ❌ Target multiple competing intents on a single page — it causes keyword cannibalization

If you remember one thing — focus on how Google Algorithm affects your users first, then optimise for search engines second.
